BEHIND THE SCENES OF THE KILLING GAME SERIES
THE CREATION OF THE YUGOSLAVIAN Writing it Without Having Been There I’m not certain how it happened, but it did. I was in the throws of writing The Killing Game and one day I looked at a photograph of a man and directly into his eyes, a man from the former Yugoslavia. In my head, I heard a man’s voice, “Write a story about my country.” I heard that voice in my head so clearly as if whoever he was right there with me. Whose voice was it I heard? God’s? My favorite, Archangel Michael’s? Or someone else’s? THE BIRTH OF IVES ANDRICH AND THE KILLING GAME SERIES I simply woke up one morning and had to write a novel. “What’s up with that?” I thought. The computer was not in working order, so out came the typewriter. Rewrites were difficult but manage-able with a bizarre numbering system that even the best mathematician couldn’t calculate. All in all, it went well. I started the first story. Then I had an idea for another and started it. IVES ANDRICH A MAN AMONG MEN Part One The Killing Game In The Killing Game, the first book of the series, the story of two people, Ives Andrich and Allina Kovar. It is a behind-the-scenes look at the relationship between two people and how they handle the life they have together. The story begins deep in their intimate relationship where the reader is introduced to Ives the hero and main character. He is powerful, influential, and force to be reckoned with. IVES ANDRICH A MAN AMONG MEN Part Five The First Move So much has happened to our hero—life and death choices, sacrifices and struggles, both professionally and personally. Nonetheless, his perseverance brings him to a new level in his life. Still coping with family bones found in Stultz’s closet, Ives finds Allina. Through all his perceptions finding her seemed all too simple, leaving him to ask, “What’s the catch?” Will he discover more issues in Germany, or could something be brewing back in the United States? IVES ANDRICH A MAN AMONG MEN Part Four The Lesser Evil In The Lesser Evil, Ives is challenged and rises above the obstacles in his path. He also discovers facts about his family and the goals they had for him. Secrets Ives would have preferred that his father had told him come from an unwelcome source, forcing him to make life-altering decisions to regain what rightfully belongs to him. As Ives contemplates, history could repeat itself. IVES ANDRICH A MAN AMONG MEN Part Three The Lost Days In The Lost Days, the third book in the series, readers experience Ives on a different level: quiet, stoic, regretful, pensive and a bit lost, yet still in complete command of his actions, emotions, and thoughts. In a way, he is strangely deliberate. Perhaps Walzinski observation said it best in book one: Drowning in those personal ideals… IVES ANDRICH A MAN AMONG MEN Part Two The Chase The unspoken subtitle of The Chase, the second book in the series, has always been Retribution, which could also be dubbed Revenge. As expected, Ives vehemently pursues the book’s first nemesis, David Seagate (the Director of Internal Affairs for the Bureau), who has spent his career taking down remarkably good Special Agents. The reader finds out that Seagate has attempted thirty-six times in Ives’ seventeen-year Bureau career to oust him, but each attempt failed. INSPIRATIONS FOR THE MITTELSTÄDT LODGE All ideas come from somewhere. The Killing Game Series has been inspired by many sources. Here are a few of the images that created the location of the Mittelstädt Lodge. INSPIRATIONS FOR MUNICH AND HOTEL KÖNIGSHOF Here are a few of the images that created the location of for the Munich scenes and Hotel Königshof.
